Flight

Like a great many people I fell in love with birds when I had the time to watch them. I have read a many many books about birds but there is always more to learn. The most special thing about these animals is the way they move through the landscape: flight is something humans can only imagine but will always long for. Migratory birds are a special interest and sorrow for me: the huge distances they travel, the devastation, by humans, of their habitats along the way. As a migrant to a country with a cold, dark winter I identify most strongly with birds who fly to summer grounds to find the sun. I wish I could fly with them on the wind and find safe harbour.
